Violins of Hope at the Grimaldi Forum

Seventy years later, violins with an initially gloomy future will come back to life for a special concert on 5 May 2013 in the Salle des Princes at the Grimaldi Forum.

Violons de l'Espoir Monaco

This exceptional show, a première for an international tour, will be taking place on 5 May 2013 at the Grimaldi Forum. Famous violinists Shlomo Mintz and Cihat Askin will perform for the first time ever in Monaco with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, playing on violins that belonged to Shoah victims.

These often severely damaged instruments were found after the Second World War in liberated camps and empty ghettos. Each violin represents a human life that was lost, but also a life that it helped to save. Over the past few decades, the master violin-maker Amnon Weinstein has been restoring these violins. Now, almost 70 years later, some of these violins will come back to life in the hands of renowned musicians.

The Orchestra, conducted by Master Gianluigi GELMETTI, who has composed a special dedication piece for this concert, will perform the works of Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Bloch and Ashkin.

The Association of Friends (Association des Amis) of the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is organising this exceptional event entitled “Violins of Hope” under the High Patronage of HSH Prince Albert II, the association’s Honorary President who will attend the event.

The concert will be followed by a Gala Dinner at the Salle Empire of the Hôtel de Paris Monte-Carlo, with many celebrities in attendance.

The evening’s profits will be entirely donated to the University of Jerusalem‘s Centre for Brain Sciences, one of the best in the world.
