This is common after the holiday period, where emotions run high but so does food rich in sugar and fat.


Despair is often the result when the scale shows extra kilos in the beginning of January. There is no reason to worry, if you realise that only a long-term balanced diet can straighten out this situation.

Sample menu over a few days 

Here is a sample menu that you can try for 2 or 3 days that will help you get things back on track:

  • You can eat until you’re full (unlimited amounts) and drink as much water, herbal tea, tea and light coffee as you’d like, as long as you drink at least 1.5 to 2 litres a day.
  • Chew slowly because you only feel full around 20 minutes after you’ve taken the first bite!  

Look around you and you’ll see that the people who ‘swallow’ rather than eat their food have more problems with their weight and digestion than those who chew and eat more slowly! 


Remember that digestion begins in the mouth (for starch, for example), due to an enzyme called salivary amylase or ptyalin. Chew your food, and your body will have less work to do afterwards.
