Mehliana at the 2013 Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival

The Monte-Carlo SBM Group is pleased to welcome the band Mehliana on stage at the Opéra Garnier de Monte-Carlo on Tuesday 26 November 2013, as part of the 8th Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival.

Mehliana is the fruit of a collaboration between world renowned pianist Brad Mahldau and drummer Mark Guiliana, two of the most gifted jazz musicians of the moment. “Mehliana” illustrates the adventurous spirit and the captivating melodies of Brad Medhlau and combines a Fender Rhodes piano with an arsenal of vintage synthesisers. He focuses on the metronomical precision and groove of Mark Guiliana’s drumming to produce a free Olympian trance reflecting the spirit of the 1970s.

The indisputable harmony and the melodicism of Brad Medhlau’s music envelope the rhythmic virtuosities of Mark Guiliana for a totally free and improvised production at the crossroads of genres such as jazz, funk and jungle.

This duo is what countless fans have been waiting for: the cream of instrumentalists humanising electronic music through improvisation and dexterity. No doubt that the intimacy of the Opéra Garnier will work in harmony with the vibe of these two virtuosos.

Larry Coryell & Juan Carmona Quartet

Another highlight of this first evening with two artists who have surpassed the boundaries of their genres with this unusual and original collaboration. Larry Coryell is considered the forerunner of jazz-rock fusion. Juan Carmona, a respected artist in all musical environments, has built bridges between Flamenco and numerous musical styles. An explosive meeting of two exceptional guitarists.
