Green Globe Certification for Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo

The Société des Bains de Mer is proud to announce that its wellness and preventive health centre, Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo, was Green Globe certified on 9 January 2016.

A step towards sustainable development

Obtaining the certification is a key milestone towards sustainable development, a policy that the Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer kick-started in 2007 by implementing its first environmental guidelines. The Group confirmed this commitment in 2013-2016 by signing a second set of environmental guidelines in December 2013 and by implementing environmental guidelines in its certified establishments according to their specificities.

In July 2014, with the explicit support of general management, Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo set up the Monte-Carlo Green Spa Team, a dedicated team that sets and carries out its environmental policy. This “Green Team”, which includes all department heads, has undergone 3 half-days of training in sustainable development in order to identify the environmental impacts of their respective activities and eco-friendly measures for implementation. An action plan was formulated to structure the policy in the spirit of continuous improvement. With all these efforts, we aim to provide our clients with the best possible service and to ensure their wellness, safety and satisfaction in a respectful, eco-responsible environment.

Green Globe is a prestigious, highly demanding, internationally recognised certification in the travel and luxury tourism industry. Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo met 251 out of 311 audit criteria for a high satisfaction rate of 82% of Green Globe criteria. This score positions the establishment among the highest scoring in the spa category.

The establishment’s most outstanding actions include electric and gas consumption from 100% renewable energy sources, healthy wellness cooking by the Chef using locally grown organic products, and using many eco-certified or eco-responsible items for body wraps and hairstyling treatments.

Finally, Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo is also very active socially (donations, support of associations and Monaco schools) and culturally (hosting local exhibitions and artists such as the pianist Stefan Cassar during renovations and setting up a library for exchanging books).

Certification as part of a continuous improvement plan

Thermes Marins Monte-Carlo is the third Société des Bains de Mer establishment to be Green Globe certified after the Monte-Carlo Beach and the Monte-Carlo Bay Hôtel & Resort. The Société des Bains de Mer has confirmed its intention to reinforce its commitment to certification in keeping with the Group’s strategy and standards as well as its clients’ expectations. Green Globe certification reinforces the Group’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in sustainable tourism in a true spirit of continuous improvement.

Green Globe certification covers all CSR initiatives for sustainable tourism.

It breaks down into 40 categories of more than 300 indicators of compliance, of which some are mandatory and others are optional. Certification is awarded on audit when all requirements are met and the compliance rate in each category of indicators is at least 50%. Every year, continuous improvement is necessary to maintain certification.
